Kapa Haka

Description:
Every Monday at 2:00 we go to kapa haka. Kapa haka is a place we you can grow knowledge of the maori culture. In kapa haka we sing and have actions, there is a special performing group called te matangi. This Thursday te matangi is performing a song for matariki.

Big idea:

At kapa haka I enjoy helping people learn about the maori culture.

I am most proud of becoming a kapa haka leader and leading the song.

I find singing in front of a large crowd because sometimes I get scared that I'm going to sing out of tune.

I am managing this by practicing at home and going over all of the songs.

A good goal for me is to practice pronouncing the words properly.

Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by helping the little kids out if the are in need.

Maths sample

Description:
Lately for maths we have been learning a wide range of diffrent stratigies to help our addition and subtraction questions. I have been working very hard on my maths lately and I have a diffrent stratigies for every addition question. I am in the Elly A and the last stratigie we learnt was rounding and compensating.

Image:

Big idea:
In the number one box I did the partitioning strategy. This is when you break up your number and plus them together. On number two I was partitioning with subtraction and I also did that on the 3rd one. On the fourth one I did the rounding and compensating strategy.

Feedback/Feedfoward:

I think that you did a very good job at explaining the math in your post. Olivia

Evaluation:
I think that I put a lot of effort into my poster and I think I explained it so that it was clear. But I think could have done one more strategy to prove that I do have wide range.

Writing sample

Description:
In Troys writing group a video called mouse for sale. We didn't just watch a video for the fun of it was an inspiration for our writing. The good thing about this video is that it doesn't have any talking in it so we could make it up a little bit. we used and tried to put in complex sentences in it.

Big idea:

We have been learning about complex sentences in writing. All of my complex sentences are in red.
A complex sentence is when you have a sentence like this for example Serena is a girl she has brown curly hair I cant just use brown curly hair because it doesn't make sense.

Image: if you would like to see the video I have put the video here.

Feedback/Feedforward:I think your story has lots of complex sentences but you need to add more to your story. Harriet

Evaluation: I think that if there were more characters I could have put in more complex sentences. I also think have added more.

Science portfolio sample

Description:
This term our focus was science so all the teachers in poutama gave us a little taste to see which one we wanted to do Elly was doing the digestive system Ebony was doing adaptations and Troy was doing food web and chains so I decided to do food webs. Last week we got our lunch boxes and made a food web.

Big idea:
Everything in our lunch boxes is based on the sun for example the corn chips had the corn which came from the sun and the cheese came from the milk which came from the milk which came from the cow who ate grass which came from the sun.

Image:

Feedback/Feedfoward:

I think you are good at taking a clear picture but you need to get better at
Explaining what from what.

Evaluation: I think that I did well at completing it in the time give but I think that I could have put in more detail.

Reading

Description:
My goal is to expand my vocabulary. To help me expand my vocabulary I can have re-read a text to to see if I missed something, or I can read a couple more sentences for any clue for example: I stepped cow in dung. It smelt terrible. I could you the the two words smelt terrible that it might be cow poo, another way is to use a dictornary. I know I'm getting better because I have range of different strategies and I know a lot more words.

Image:

Big idea:

My tic tac toe activity was to write words that had Tri at the start of the word.
I am really proud of all of the work I have done in the time given.

Feedback/Feedforward:

I think Serena did well at finding the words but what I think she can work on is making more detail for the poster. By Bridget

Evaluation:

I think that I did well because I came up with a lot of words and I looked up some words to expand it.
What I think I could have worked on was to put more detail into the poster.

Catch me if you can- Defense

Description:
Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. I have highlighted the thing I think I have done well YELLOW and one thing I would like to work on PINK.
Body:
WALT: Defensive skills and movements
Success Criteria:
Body Movement
  • Weight on balls of feet
  • Feet shoulder width apart
  • Knees flexed
  • Concentration and eyes on ball, head and eyes up
  • Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass
  • Quick small feet, stay on balls of feet
  • Arms within confines of body
  • Take feet to ball
  • Land with a SBP
Intercepting:
  • Body angled to see player and ball
  • Anticipate pass and players movement
Restrictive Marking
  • Meet player as they start towards the ball/where they want to go
  • stay close to the attacking player
  • Head and eyes up, arms close to body to avoid obstruction/contact
  • Angle body so attacking player is ‘pushed’ away from where he/she wants to go
  • 0.9m from ball carrier

Evaluation:
I think that I can stay close to the attaker so when he is throwing the ball I can catch it.

Feedback/Feedfoward: I think your video was great. I also think you could stay closer to the attacker. Your intercepting was great.I think your video angle was very creative. You could stay the right amount of steps back in netball from the player. Great Job! Rosalind)
